Serving Lorain County for 46 Years

Since 1978, the Lorain County Urban League has been a beacon of empowerment and connectivity for African Americans and all underserved individuals within our communities. At the heart of our mission lies a steadfast commitment to equality, ensuring that every American has equitable access to the resources essential for success. Through our array of programs, we provide vital support to marginalized minorities, equipping them with the tools needed to conquer the systemic barriers hindering their progress in education, housing, employment, entrepreneurship, health, and justice.Urban League affiliates around the country are putting Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream into action with a new phase of civil rights and social justice advocacy and activism based on three guiding principles: Defend Democracy, Demand Diversity, and Defeat Poverty. Building upon the foundation of our 'Urban League Fights For You' initiative, born amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 crisis, our 2024 campaign, 'D3,' extends and enriches our historical dedication to advancing employment, education, housing, healthcare, and equitable justice. In the face of renewed threats, we stand resolute, amplifying our efforts to foster a fair and inclusive society for all.

The annual publication of the State of Black America®, now in its 47th edition, is one of the most highly anticipated sources for thought leaders around racial equality in America economics, employment, education, health, housing, criminal justice and civic participation. Each edition contains penetrating commentary and insightful analysis from recognized authorities and leading figures in politics, the corporate and tech sectors, the nonprofit arena, academia and popular culture. The 2023 State of Black America examines rising extremism, how it results in dangerous and misguided public policy, and the threat that it poses to our safety, our way of life, and our democracy.

The Urban League is partnering with IssueVoter to give everyone an equal voice in our democracy by making civic engagement accessible, efficient, and impactful. IssueVoter makes it easy to engage with your political process.

How it Works:

  • Track your rep's activity. We tell you how your rep voted, how often your representative agrees with you, and whether or not they’ve attended a vote.

  • Encourage open discussion. You can share an issue on your favorite social network, without revealing your personal opinion.

  • Act on issues that don’t make headlines. We don’t only tell you about what is breaking the news; we check for updates every hour to make sure you have the latest information.

  • Become an informed voter. Using IssueVoter year-round informs you before elections and keeps money's influence out of your opinion. Only re-elect reps who truly represented you.
