Serving Lorain County for 47 Years

My Urban League Story

Since 1978, the Lorain County Urban League has been a steadfast force for equity and empowerment, championing opportunities for African Americans and all underserved individuals in our communities. Our mission is rooted in the unwavering pursuit of justice, ensuring that every American has fair and equitable access to the essential resources needed to thrive. Through comprehensive programs in education, housing, employment, entrepreneurship, health, and justice, we equip individuals with the tools to break systemic barriers and build brighter futures.

In this current political climate, the work of the Urban League is more needed than ever. Across the nation, policies and narratives are shifting in ways that threaten to roll back decades of progress on voting rights, diversity, and economic opportunity. Here in Lorain County, we see the effects of those national challenges every day—families struggling to find affordable housing, young people navigating inequities in education, and communities still fighting for fair access to jobs and healthcare. The Lorain County Urban League remains a lifeline for the underserved, standing firm in our commitment to empower, educate, and uplift. As part of the larger Urban League Movement, we are determined to ensure that every individual in our community has the resources and opportunities they need not just to survive—but to thrive.

STATE OF BLACK AMERICA

The annual publication of the State of America, now in its 49th edition, is the highly anticipated source for thought leaders focusing on racial equality in America. The 2025 State of Black America report dives into an unprecedented extremist, anti-diversity movement to erase 60 years of freedoms gained under the Voting Rights Act and undermine Democracy. Read how in the face of these threats, the Urban League movement is fighting alongside Civil Rights leaders and communities across the country as a leader in the resistance.

The Urban League is partnering with IssueVoter to give everyone an equal voice in our democracy by making civic engagement accessible, efficient, and impactful. IssueVoter makes it easy to engage with your political process.

How it Works:

Track your rep's activity. We tell you how your rep voted, how often your representative agrees with you, and whether or not they’ve attended a vote.

Encourage open discussion. You can share an issue on your favorite social network, without revealing your personal opinion.

Act on issues that don’t make headlines. We don’t only tell you about what is breaking the news; we check for updates every hour to make sure you have the latest information.

Become an informed voter. Using IssueVoter year-round informs you before elections and keeps money's influence out of your opinion. Only re-elect reps who truly represented you.
