The State of Lorain County’s African American and Latino Communities: A Community Building Initiative for Positive Change is a landmark study that was commissioned by the Lorain County Urban League and El Centro De Servicios Sociales and published in 2001. The intent of this report, the first of its kind in the history of Lorain County, was to “effectively identify and strategically address the disparities and opportunities for African American and Hispanic communities in Lorain County.” To accomplish the above goal, an Impact Committee comprised of more that 50 community representatives worked together to ensure that the process evolved from a genuine, collaborative effort; the minority communities shared a stake in both process and outcome.

The Lorain County Urban League believes that Lorain County, with its many assets can do better and be better. The State of Lorain County’s African American and Latino Communities: A Community Building Initiative for Positive Change, is one of many examples of the leadership role that LCUL plays in Lorain County and the Northeast Ohio Region.
